Drawings: “Terra est”
The Spanish artist Tonia R. Alvarez works with ink, charcoal and watercolor. For her, a drawing is a searching eye that reveals conflicts.
Her studio is the starting point for her work: it is her space for creative ideas and her source of inspiration.
Books and colors, paper and objects, all of them tell a story of their own – some visible, some hidden. However, Tonia Alvarez feels the urge to draw and paint. Her hand picks up the colors to put them down on paper in the form of lines and pictures and to realize artistic ideas.
‘For me, the artistic creative process is linked to pure pleasure. It arises only through the creation itself and thus makes it possible to understand beauty and make it tangible.’
At ART ESSENZ 2020 she will present her graphic work ‘Terra est’ and she will work on further pieces on site. Tonia R. Alvarez was born in 1965 in Gijón (Asturias, Spain). She studied at Escuela de Artes y Oficios (Art School) in Tarragona and was a master student of Hermann Kaubisch.
